Director, Producer, Writer

Ed Caffrey wrote, produced, and directed Stealing Valor as his graduate research project for his master’s degree in communication from Pittsburg State University, in Pittsburg, Kansas. The film is the culmination of two years or research on the phenomenon of military impostors, also known as Stolen Valor.

Caffrey began his graduate research in 2015 after retiring from the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant in November 2014. He served 21 years as an Air Force medic and deployed three times in support of the Global War on Terrorism. Like many of the subjects in his film, Caffrey says he became involved in the Stolen Valor movement by accident. Although he worked as a medic, Caffrey had a background in journalism and found himself using his investigative skills to uncover impostors while working with groups like the POW Network.

Since completing his graduate degree, Caffrey has been working as a reporter and news anchor for KZRG radio in Joplin, Missouri.
