The GI Film Festival and Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) are co-hosting a film contest in which eligible participants create a 3-5 min video highlighting the experience of veterans at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), specifically VA healthcare and/or the disability claims process.
The Top 5 videos will be screened at the 2014 GI Film Festival in Washington, DC and will be posted on the GI Film Festival website for all to view.
The top three winning videos will be awarded cash and prizes that include:
– $5,000 and 2 VIP tickets to the 2014 DC GI Film Festival (grand prize)
– $3,000 and 2 VIP tickets to the 2014 DC GI Film Festival (second prize)
– $1,000 and 2 VIP tickets to the 2014 DC GI Film Festival (third prize)

The GI Film Festival and CVA contest is open to filmmakers who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and its territories and the District of Columbia The GI Film Festival and CVA film contest is subject to all federal, state/provincial, and local laws and regulations and is void outside of the U.S. and where prohibited by law.
To participate, filmmakers must submit a 3-5 minute video that meets submission guidelines. Filmmakers should submit a YouTube, Vimeo, or video link via the GIFF online website submission page. Participants can submit their films from January 16 to April 16, 2014 at http://gifilmfestival.com/CVAContest
Entries received during the submission period will be screened to determine if the 3-5 minute film meets the submission guidelines below.
Submission content and guidelines:
The 3-5 min video must highlight the experience of a veteran, or veterans generally, at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Specifically, the film must address the delivery of VA administered healthcare and/or the VA disability claims process.
The mission of the GI Film Festival is to preserve the stories of service and sacrifices of the men and women in uniform, and the veterans’ experience at VA is central to that.
All video submissions must be between 3 to 5 min including credits. If entry is longer than 5 minutes or less than 3 minutes they will be disqualified from the submission process.
There is no fee to enter the GI Film Festival and CVA film contest. However, all filmmakers are responsible for any costs they may incur for creating and submitting their video. By submitting your video, you grant the GI Film Festival and CVA the right to screen, post online, stream online, and broadcast via satellite and television in all manner of media in the US and internationally your video, in whole or in part, for perpetuity and for any purpose.
Submission & Entry Restrictions:
Submissions may have been previously published.
There is no limit on the number of original entries that you may submit; however, you may not submit the same entry more than once.
Submissions must not be unlawful, defamatory, obscene, sexually explicit, pornographic, threatening, abusive, harassing, hateful, vulgar, racially or ethnically-motivated, invasive of another’s privacy, or otherwise objectionable, unfit for publication, posting, or otherwise dissemination for public viewing, all of the above as determined by the GI Film Festival and CVA in their sole discretion.
Submissions should not be perceived as giving or threatening to give rise to criminal or civil liability, encouraging conduct that might constitute a criminal offense, or encouraging or providing instructional information about illegal activities.
Submissions should be original to the Entrant and not copied from somewhere and the Entrant should have obtained the right, from all people, if any, associated with the creation of or participation in the Entry, to use their names and any other personal details and likeness not prohibited by these Official Rules.
Submissions should not contain any trademarks, logos, or trade dress (such as distinctive packaging or building exteriors/interiors) owned by others, without permission; or contains any personal identification, such as license plate numbers, personal names, e-mail addresses or street addresses.
Submissions should not contain any copyrighted materials owned by others (including photographs, music, sculptures, paintings, and other works of art or images published on or in websites, television, movies or other media), without permission.
You are solely responsible for the equipment and internet access required to enter or participate in the GI Film Festival and CVA film contest.
The GI Film Festival and CVA reserve the right to, in their sole discretion, restrict participation in the program to any person at any time for any reason and/or to disqualify any entry at any time for any reason.
Any attempted entry by any means except as permitted in these Official Rules will be voided.
Only an eligible entrant may participate in the video contest. The GI Film Festival and the CVA expressly reserve the right to determine the issue of eligibility and/or the right of any entrant to redeem or otherwise benefit from any prize at any time (including, without limitation, after an entrant was earlier deemed eligible).
Notwithstanding any other provision of these rules, if at any time during the contest period or at any time thereafter, the GI Film Festival and the CVA determine that not enough or no eligible entrants exist from which to choose, then the GI Film Festival and CVA may in their sole and exclusive discretion determine that not enough or no eligible entrants exist, and then may either suspend or terminate the campaign or modify it (or any parts thereof) in any equitable manner that they deem appropriate in their sole and exclusive discretion, including, without limitation, by not awarding any one or more of the prizing set forth in these rules.
The GI Film Festival and CVA will not be responsible for lost, late, incomplete, stolen, misdirected, undelivered, delayed, inaccurate, garbled or illegible entries or materials or for any computer, telephone, cable, network, satellite, electronic or internet hardware or software malfunctions, failures, connections or availability, or for garbled or jumbled transmissions, or for service provider/Internet/Website/usenet accessibility or availability, traffic congestion, or unauthorized human intervention, or for inaccurate capture of any information, or the failure to capture any such information. Proof of submission will not be deemed to be proof of receipt.
Entrant warrants that they are the sole creator, author, and owner of the submission and that they have the full right and authority to submit the entry. Entrant further warrants that no rights in or to the submission have been granted previously and that publishing the submission will not violate any personal or property of rights of any third party, including, but not limited to, copyright and rights of privacy or publicity.
As conditions of entry into the GI Film Festival and CVA film contest, and by uploading an entry, each Entrant warrants and represents that uploaded Entry (a) is your original work (b) does not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity or other intellectual property or other rights of any person or entity; (c) that you have obtained permission from a person who’s name, likeness or voice is used in the Video or Music and (d) and that publication of the Video or Music via various media including Web posting, will not infringe on the rights of any third party rights. Any such entrant will indemnify and hold harmless the GI Film Festival and CVA from any claims to the contrary.
Employees, officers, and directors of each of the GI Film Festival and CVA as well as members of their immediate families (children, siblings, or households (whether or not related), are not eligible to participate in the program.
By entering this video contest, and to the extent allowed by law, entrants grant the GI Film Festival and CVA and each of their affiliates, licensees, promotional partners, and third party marketing entities the absolute right and permission to edit, modify, cut, rearrange, add to, delete from, copy, reproduce, translate, dub, adapt, publish, exploit, and use the content of and elements embodied in the Video Submissions, entries, and the entries themselves, in perpetuity in any and all media, including but not limited to digital and electronic media, computer, audio and audiovisual media (whether now existing or hereafter devised), in any language, throughout the world, and in any manner, for trade, advertising, promotional, commercial or any other purposes without further review, notice, approval, consideration, or compensation.
Entrants waive The GI Film Festival and each of their affiliates from any and all claims that entrants may now or hereafter have in any jurisdiction based on any claims.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability; disclaimer of warranties. By participating in the contest, each entrant agrees: (i) to be bound by these rules (including, without limitation, all documentation and all applicable laws; (ii) to waive any rights to claim ambiguity with respect to these rules; (iii) waive all of entrant’s rights to bring any claim, action, or proceeding against any of the contest entities; and (iv) to release each of the contest entities and each of their respective directors, officers, employees, agents, representatives and/or other authorized designees from any liability (including, but not limited to, liability for any property loss, damage, personal injury, bodily injury, death, loss, expense, accident, delay, inconvenience or irregularity) that may arise in connection with, as applicable: (a) entrant’s participation or inability to participate in the contest (and/or any parts thereof); (b) ambiguous judging criteria; (c) typographical errors in the rules or in any offline, or online contest-related promotional materials; (d) acceptance or possession, defects in, use, misuse or inability to use any prize (or any component thereof); (e) any change in prizing as permitted hereunder or otherwise due to reasons beyond any of the contest entities’ control; (f) human error; (g) incorrect or inaccurate transcription, receipt, transmission, coding, transcoding, or any other materials; (h) any technical malfunctions or unavailability of any web site, telephone network, computer, online system, computer dating mechanism, computer equipment, software, internet or wireless service provider, U.S. mail service, private mail service or courier utilized by any of the contest entities or by a entrants; (i) interruption or inability to access the contest site, any contest-related web pages, or any online service via the internet, or wireless service due to hardware or software compatibility or other problems; (j) any lost/delayed data transmissions, omissions, interruptions, defects, and/or any other errors or malfunctions; (k) any wrongful, negligent, or unauthorized act or omission on the part of any other entrant or individual purporting to act on behalf of any such entrant and/or any of the contest entities and/or any of their agents, employees or authorized designees; (l) any wrongful, negligent, or unauthorized act or omission on the part of any other person or entity not an employee of any of the contest entities; and/or (m) any other cause, condition or event whatsoever beyond the control of any one or more of the contest entities. Each winner hereby acknowledges that the contest entities have neither made nor are in any manner responsible or liable for any warranty, representation or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, relative to any prize or component thereof.
The Promotional Period
The GI Film Festival will select the top 5 entrances to play during the GI Film Festival 2014.
A panel of entertainment industry insiders will independently select 5 entrants to become “Official Selections” of the 2014 GI Film Festival and provide the top 3 winners with cash prizes ($5,000, $3,000 and $1,000).
Each Entrant shall indemnify and hold harmless the GI Film Festival and CVA, their respective employees, agents, officers, and directors (collectively, the “Indemnified Parties”) from any and all claims, demands, causes of action, proceedings, expenses, and/or liabilities resulting or arising from or connected with, or claimed to have arisen, resulted from or be connected with: (i) the video contest; (ii) the Entrant’s entry, participation, attempt to participate or inability to participate, in the Contest or in any parts thereof; (iii) submission and/or Contest Entities’ use of any of the Entries; (iv) the Entrant’s failure to comply with any one or more of the Rules or any Applicable Laws; (v) the breach or alleged breach of any warranty, representation (including, without limitation any eligibility-related representation) or covenant made by the Entrant or any other Entrant in connection with the video contest (including, without limitation, in any of the documentation required to be executed in connection with the Contest and/or the redemption of any prizing; and (vi) any right or benefit granted by the Entrant and to any of the video contest Entities in connection with the Contest.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, these Official Rules shall be interpreted and enforced in accordance with the laws of the State of Virginia and the United States of America, without regard to conflicts of law principles. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, should a dispute arise concerning the Contest and/or terms and conditions of these Official Rules, or the breach of same by any party hereto, the parties agree to submit their dispute for resolution by arbitration before the Arbitration Association in Virginia in accordance with the then current Commercial Arbitration rules of the American Arbitration Association. Any award rendered shall be final and conclusive to the parties and a judgment thereon may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction. To the extent permitted by law, you agree that you will not bring, join or participate in any class action lawsuit as to any claim, dispute or controversy that you may have against any of the video contest Entities, and their respective members, officers, directors, employees and agents with respect to the video contest. Should any part of these Rules be held invalid or unenforceable, that portion shall be construed consistent with applicable law and the remaining portions shall remain in full force and effect.
Waiver of Injunctive Relief:
Each Entrant understands and agrees that he/she shall have no right to enjoin or restrain the development, production, advertising, promotion, distribution or exploitation of their submitted video.
