Ryan Smith, Co-Director & Co-Producer
The Blood We Shed
Ryan Smith was born on October 7, 1977 in Redlands, CA to an Italian American family. His family has served in the military since WWII and his mother currently works as a case manager for injured Marines and sailors aboard Camp Pendleton, CA. Like many kids, Ryan had dreams of playing professional sports, and he was nearly there, but he was severely injured in a game and was forced to spend the next three years on his back trying to make sense out of it all. After a lengthy and complicated recovery, Ryan decided to go back to school and follow a dream he had as a child. That dream was to become a Director like Steven Spielberg or Francis Ford Coppola, so he has worked tirelessly on graduating college and becoming a filmmaker.
During his first semester at California State University San Marcos he met another student that shared his aspirations to become a filmmaker, Sebastian Maselli. Ryan and Sebastian decided to team up for what began as a class assignment, but after witnessing the courageous and inspiring stories of the wounded Marines they soon realized that this was much more than a simple college assignment; it became “Blood We Shed.”
