World Premier Screening of the Director’s Cut…New Footage Never Before Seen!

Gods and Generals with Director Ron Maxwell

At five hours and ten minutes, the director’s cut of Gods and Generals is nearly two hours longer than the theatrical version.

“There are director’s cuts and there are director’s cuts,” said director Ron Maxwell.  “This is the real deal.  This is an entirely different film with these new scenes.”

Warner Bros and Ted Turner pictures were willing to release Gods and Generals in two parts over two years in 2003 and 2004.  But Maxwell opted for telling Stonewall Jackson’s story in one sitting, from his professorship at VMI to his demise after the Battle of Chancellorsville.  As a result the movie was pared down to its 3:37 running time in theaters and DVD.

What was left on the cutting room floor five years ago?  What will be screened for avid moviegoers Thursday night?

Among the brand new scenes:

·     An entire sub-plot involving the actor Harrison from the movie Gettysburg , following his  relationship with fellow thespian John Wilkes Booth.

·    The Battle of Antietam as seen from the points of view of Robert E Lee, George B McClellan, Stonewall Jackson and Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain.

·   Camp life among both the Confederate and Federal armies

·   An additional sixty minutes of original musical score composed by John Frizell and Randy Edelman, and much more.

Ron Maxwell will introduce the film.  There will be two intermissions.  Arrive rested and well fed.  Cinephiles, movie-buffs and Civil War enthusiasts will have just one chance to see this truly epic motion-picture, on Thursday evening, 6:30 pm sharp at the Carnegie Institution.

Synopsis: This epic film from writer-director Ron Maxwell chronicles the early events of the American Civil War. It's a prequel to his earlier GETTYSBURG, with some of the same cast, and is part of a planned trilogy. Stephen Lang plays Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, the famous (and deeply religious) Confederate general who, along with fellow General Robert E. Lee (Robert Duvall), must weigh the mighty consequences of his actions, as each battle costs the lives of thousands of men.

"Gods and Generals is not only the finest movie ever made about the Civil War, it is also the best American historical film. Period."

--Bill Kauffman, American Enterprise Magazine
